Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) told a town hall in Mississippi on Wednesday that the Democratic Party “has been a failure” for the past 15 years, reports NTK Network.
Sanders was asked how the Democrats could harness the power of the millennial turnout that appeared in great masses during the 2016 election to reenergize the party. While answering the question Sanders absolutely took out the Democratic party and said their performance as a political party has been terrible in the 21st century.
“The business model for the Democratic Party for the last fifteen years or so has been a failure,” he said. “Over the last ten years, Democrats have lost about 1,000 seats in state legislatures all across this country.”
The socialist senator called for Democrats to contest red states, pointing out that many states like Mississippi are completely controlled by Republicans. But the Democratic establishment is resisting a party that would appeal to everyone in the country, he said.
“So what we are doing is trying against a whole lot of opposition. You know, the establishment doesn’t go quietly into the twilight. But we are trying to open the doors of the Democratic Party to young people, to the millennials,” Sanders said.
Sanders attack on the Democratic party isn’t anything new and is why he is labeled as an Independent, but Sanders may still seek a nomination for the party in 2020 but he has yet to confirm or deny this. Sanders has also called out Hillary Clinton, the Queen of the Democrats, and has sided with Republicans on the point that she is a corrupt bureaucrat that should not be trusted in the oval office with the nation’s security or economy.
