Megyn Kelly’s short-lived Sunday primetime show “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly” is off the air. It had two episodes remaining on the schedule before taking a hiatus until after the football season but NBC decided to pull the plug early. Originally, episodes were going to air on August 6th and 13th. If it had performed well it could have gone until September 3rd at the latest.

As she signed off on her final broadcast she claimed the Sunday show would be back, but that seems highly unlikely:

“That’s all for tonight — and for the summer run of this program,” she said, before plugging her new morning show and assuring viewers “I’ll be back right here, Sunday nights, in the spring.”

Her ratings were absolutely brutal:

“After debuting on June 4 to 6.2 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in the news demo, the equivalent of around 1.44 million adults 25 to 54, Kelly’s Sunday night show struggled to retain an audience. A controversial broadcast featuring an interview with conservative conspiracy theorist Alex Jones delivered just 961,000 demographically-relevant live-same-day viewers, and subsequent ratings fell even further from there.

“According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data, the eight episodes of ‘Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly’ averaged 3.69 million viewers and a 0.8 in the 25-to-54 demo. By way of comparison, repeats of CBS’s “60 Minutes” that aired directly opposite the Kelly show averaged 6.82 million viewers and 1.0 in the news demo, while encore episodes of ABC’s “America’s Most Wanted” drew 4.12 million viewers and a 1.0 rating among adults 25 to 54 in the same time slot.”

She even lost audience to goofy kid and animal videos.

She averaged 533,000 viewers the final year of her show on Fox News. A primetime show on Sunday should have dwarfed those numbers, but they did not. She lost half of her audience from her debut broadcast on NBC.

Megyn Kelly’s fall from grace really isn’t that surprising to everyone except NBC officials. She alienated her conservative base audience on Fox News when she went to war with Donald Trump. And liberals have always hated her because she worked for Fox News, a sin that is unforgivable in the eyes of most leftists. So it’s unclear who her audience was going to consist of at NBC.

NBC is committed to trying her morning show in the fall. But they really have no choice after shelling out millions of dollars for her services.
