Nancy Pelosi made waves recently with her withdrawal of support from her party’s efforts to impeach President Trump. Republicans are now using the comments as proof positive that, not only is the political reality of impeachment likely to hurt the Left in 2020, but that there is no basis for the impeachment in the first place. Pelosi’s backtracking has been met with resistance in her own party, particularly among the freshmen class of disruptors on Capitol Hill, such as socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). Notably, Trump witch hunters like Rep. Al Green (D-TX) has vowed a third impeachment resolution despite the failure of the first two. This will play well for Trump in the lead up to 2020.

Here’s more from The Hill…

Republicans are seizing on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) comments pumping the brakes on impeaching President Trump — and their reaction could exacerbate Democratic tensions on the issue.

Some supporters of the president argue that Pelosi’s comments, in a Washington Post interview, are tantamount to admitting there is insufficient evidence to launch impeachment proceedings.

Other pro-Trump voices give Pelosi grudging praise for — as they see it — acknowledging the political reality that an impeachment effort could easily backfire on Democrats, much as the GOP drive against then-President Clinton harmed congressional Republicans in the 1990s.
