One of Donald Trump’s arguments in his defense of the decision to bow out of last night’s Fox News debate was that he was the reason previous debate were garnering so much attention.

But news today has burst the bubble on that theory as preliminary ratings for last night’s event proved consistent.

According to Fox News, the seven-candidate debate garnered an 8.4 rating, which was higher than that of the previous debate which included Trump.

The event was arguably the first since the GOP debate began back in August that did not include personal attacks.

Instead, candidate sparred on key policy points including immigration and foreign policy, but mostly focused on the common goal of defeating Hillary Clinton.

Despite that the candidates never agreed on it, there appeared an ‘organic’ consensus on not shining a spotlight on Donald Trump as the event ended with only a few brief mentions of his candidacy.
