Leaders in Illinois’ Effingham County have adopted a resolution declaring it a sanctuary for gun owners. The County Board on Monday passed the resolution on an 8-1 vote and directed employees not to enforce new Illinois laws that would “unconstitutionally restrict the Second Amendment,” reports the Chicago Tribune.
Effingham County State’s Attorney Bryan Kibler tells the Effingham Daily News that the action is largely symbolic. He says the resolution won’t control decision-making at the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Dave Mahon said if the state were to pass such a law he would consult with the state’s attorney and the Illinois Sheriff’s Association before deciding what to do.
The resolution also opposes state legislation that Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed that would have required more registration for gun shops.
This is great news coming at a time when students and liberals all around the country have been shouting for more gun control and some insane democrats even shouting for the abolishment of the second amendment.
After the recent school shootings that have happened in Parkland, Florida and then the “March For Our Lives” event that occurred on Washington last month, the fever for the anti-gun movement has been higher than ever before, and now more than ever do we need laws like this one in Illinois that protects people’s right to arm themselves.
The Democrats may have their sanctuary cities to protect illegal immigrants, but now Republicans can have sanctuary cities that protect their rights that are already legal and are in the constitution of the United States.
